After obligatory military service, Arnd Merschky began studying law at Rhinish Friedrich Wilhelms University in Bonn in 1987. He passed his first state law examination in 1992 and the second in 1994.

In 1994, he moved to Halle and has been a partner of this law firm since 1995.

In 1996, he became head of the Saxony Anhalt section of Deutsches Forum für Erbrecht e.V.

In 1999, he was registered as lawyer specialising in tax law.

In 2002, he was appointed examiner for the first and second state law examinations by the Ministry of Justice of the State of Saxony Anhalt.

In 2005, he was appointed Presiding Judge of the Lawyer's Disciplinary Panel of the Bar Association of the State of Saxony Anhalt.

In 2006, he was recognized as a lawyer for inheritance law as his second field of specialization.

In 2006, he was appointed deputy chairman of the special committee for inheritance law of the Bar Association of the State of Saxony Anhalt. In the same year he was elected Member of the Executive Committee of the Lawyers' Pension Scheme of the state Saxony Anhalt.

His activities as a lawyer focus on social law, tax law and inheritance law.

In the fields of social and tax law he acts as advisor to clients buying or selling firms, founds businesses and advises successors of businesses. In these fields he also is involved in different kinds of transformational procedures.

In inheritance law, he draws up last wills and contracts to minimize legal portions, advises on questions of inheritance law, manages estates as an executor, advises on inheritance disputes, including enforced claims involving legal portions.

Since 2005, he has himself been training other lawyers under the newly created training scheme for lawyers specialising in inheritance law and regularly gives lectures to banks and their clients as well as to the chamber of industry and trade and the craft chamber.

He is initiator and organizer of the Halle Inheritance Law Days, a three-day series of lectures on inheritance law, which is organised every other year. He is a regular professional contributor to general publications such as Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, the magazine of the craft chamber and others.

His name was mentioned twice in national surveys performed by the news magazine Focus to identify lawyers recommended in the field of inheritance law (Focus Issue Nos. 21/2000 und 44/2003).
